ClimateDAF

Introducing

ClimateDAF

Let’s do more for our climate, together.

Investments?

Aligned

Green bonds and climate solutions, not fossil fuels.

Grant Restrictions?

None

Grant to any 501(c)(3), not just climate ones.

Impact?

Undeniable

1% each year funds a climate project you can point to.

Everything you love about a DAF.

  • Grant to any 501(c)(3) you want
  • Take your tax deduction in the year you contribute
  • Pay industry-standard fees0.60% a year in admin and advisory fees: 0.50% Altruist + 0.10% Carbon Collective advisory, on DAF assets, plus fund expenses. As of 09/30/2026.
  • Give cash or appreciated stock

…but with different investments.

What a regular DAF invests in
What a ClimateDAF invests in

…and a different approach to collective giving.

What could we build together that we couldn’t fund alone?

Could we… plug an abandoned oil well?

Examples only. These costs and impact estimates are illustrations, loosely based on real-world projects. The cost and impact of any project on the ballot will vary. All photos are royalty-free. No projects have been selected yet.

The ClimateNOW Prize

Every year, we run a democratic process.

  1. 1

Experts source, vet, and verify projects

Terraset, a climate nonprofit, invites applications and checks that each project is real, ready to build and won’t happen without this funding.

  2. 2

    We all vote

The goal of the ClimateNOW prize is to fund tangible, real climate projects every year. But how to decide which get funded? We all vote and the winners get the prize. 1% of your DAF = 1 vote. 5% = 5 votes. This way $5k and $500k have the same voice.

  3. 3

We get to be a part of real change together

The pooled commitments fund the winner every year, and each grant includes a before-and-after film.

Fees

Doing more doesn’t cost more.

Admin fees right in line with the biggest names in giving, and they keep dropping as your DAF grows. Pick a balance to compare.

How these fees are calculatedBlended annual sponsor and advisory fees on a steady balance, excluding underlying fund expenses. Bank of America charges one rate on the whole balance. ClimateDAF: Altruist 0.50% on the first $500,000, 0.30% on the next $500,000, then stepping down to 0.10% above $15M, plus a 0.10% Carbon Collective advisory fee on the first $500,000 only. Custom means the sponsor prices that balance by request: Fidelity Charitable at $5M and up, Vanguard Charitable above $30M, Bank of America above $50M. Vanguard Charitable adds $250 a year under $25,000; Bank of America has a $25,000 minimum. Who’s behind it

Built by two groups tired of waiting for someone else to build it.

$445Mregulatory assets under managementAs of September 30, 2026 we had $449,881,274 in regulatory assets under management from individual investors, employer 401(k) and 403(b) plans, and our ETFs and CITs, based on internal records and calculated using the Form ADV method. This method counts both our funds and client accounts that hold them, so some assets are counted twice. Rounded down for simplicity.

FAQ

Questions we get asked.

What is a donor-advised fund (DAF)?

It’s an investment account where the proceeds can only be used to donate to nonprofits.

You take the tax deduction the year you add cash or appreciated stock. You can then grant out the money over time. Grant it all this year. Or all over 10 years. Or never (please don’t do that – abandoned DAFs are a big problem).

We wanted to open ClimateDAF because for some, the idea of donating to climate causes from funds that are invested in fossil fuel companies was a blatant contradiction.

Can I move a DAF I already have?

Yes. You can grant the funds in one DAF to another one.

Most sponsors, including Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable and Vanguard Charitable, allow DAF-to-DAF grants. During our onboarding flow, you can either have us hop on a call with you to do it together or send instructions based on where your current DAF is located.

What does it cost?

Admin fees similar to the biggest DAF sponsors.

Our fund fees are higher than plain index funds, but lower than the climate pools at Fidelity Charitable and Vanguard Charitable. See the Pricing page for the exact numbers at any balance.

Do I have to give to climate causes?

No. Grant to any eligible 501(c)(3).

Your school, your food bank, your church, a climate group. The only shared commitment is the 1% that goes to the ClimateNOW Prize pool, but you can give to any other 501(c)(3) just like a regular DAF.

What is the 1% commitment?

Each year, at least 1% of your DAF balance goes to the shared prize pool.

Pooled together, members fund one shovel-ready climate project a year and each get one vote on which one. You can contribute more for more votes.
